Lantern Festival is an important traditional festival in China which is closely related to the Spring Festival. It marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. Its time-honored history can be traced back to the Warring States Period (战国时期), and because of its deep cultural atmosphere and abundant activities, it’s widely welcomed both by Chinese and foreign tourists alike.


The Lantern Festival in Hangzhou offers many interesting activities such as appreciating colorful lanterns, guessing lantern riddles and so on. On this auspicious night, and in the moonlight, the finest and most ornamental lanterns are exhibited along the streets of Hangzhou. These lanterns are exquisite, and usually shaped like animals such as Chinese dragons, lions, horses . Under these lanterns hang plenty of slips with riddles on. People who work out these riddles can get gifts, and of course, other people’s admiration.
