Brief of Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow

Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow is another renowned scenic spot in Hangzhou. Originally built in the 10th century, Leifeng Pagoda used to stand in front of Jingci Temple on Nanping Hill though, failing to stand the test of time, the Pagoda collapsed in the early 1900s.

Although Leifeng Pagoda has been in ruins for 77 years, people feel its scenic value as a counterbalance to Baochu pagoda across West Lake and its historical importance, especially through its association with one of China’s four most popular folk stories- the Legend of White Snake, warrant its reconstruction.

So, in 2002, Leifeng Pagoda was reconstructed. Now the typical Leifeng Pagoda in Evening Glow has returned and become one of the ten charms of West Lake. The Pagoda looks especially majestic when surrounded by the golden hues of the setting sun. With the combination of traditional aesthetic style and modern architecture techniques, Leifeng Pagoda affords a view of West Lake in its entirety.
