Brief of Happy Pairs
In a local banquet menu, you may notice a dessert called Happy Pairs, a pair of buns. Happy pairs is a notable local snack and was originally created by the over-eighty-year-old Zhi Wei Guan Restaurant. The buns have soft and thin skin made of oily flour paste, and are usually stuffed with sweetened bean paste and what they call “Hundred Fruit Jam”. You may notice an interesting phenomenon that Happy Pairs is always sold by the pair, because the snack is dedicated to the Butterfly Lovers - Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, a Chinese Equivalent to Romeo and Juliet.
